What Happens in a Neurofeedback Session?
The following describes how a NeurOptimal neurofeedback sessions look like training
A session takes a total of 50 min, while the program itself is 33 min.
Before your first neurofeedback session begins you can fill in a brief questionnaire describing how you are feeling. Then, you’ll sit in a comfortable chair.
Next, the trainer attaches tiny sensors near your scalp and three clips on your ears to pick up delicate electrical activity of your brain. Much like an EKG or ECG, the NeurOptimal® system is simply reading this signal. Nothing invasive is involved with the training process. NeurOptimal® neurofeedback is naturopathic and does not “push” the brain in any particular direction. The system merely cues your central nervous system to do what is naturally best for YOUR brain.
Your trainer will then give you headphones and start the program – The brain training begins. You will listen to music during which you may notice very brief pauses in the sound. The very precise timing of these interruptions gives the brain vital information it needs to reorganize itself to operate more optimally. You don’t have to do anything while all this is happening. It’s all right to close your eyes and “zone out” and just let your brain do its job. A session runs around 35 minutes.
How will you feel afterwards? Because NeurOptimal® is non-invasive and does not push the brain in any “direction” during training, it is highly unlikely you will feel any side effects following a session. Any noticeable shifts in your mood, awareness or energy level after brain training really depends on the individual and can vary from session to session. See our FAQ page and learn how many sessions are needed
The main point is that transformation with NeurOptimal® happens according to the brain’s own intrinsic wisdom, with no conscious effort from the user.
What to Expect
When the brain is trained with NeurOptimal neurofeedback, clients may notice the following:
- Feeling calmer
- Increased mental clarity and focus
- Dropping away of fears
- More appropriate response to situations
- Feeling lighter and greater ease
- Increased motivation and ability to accomplish tasks
How Many Sessions Do I Need?
Study results of 1.2 million neurofeedback sessions indicate significant improvement was seen after 11-20 therapy sessions. Neurofeedback patients, on average, train for 15-25 therapy sessions. Results vary, and on rare occasions, minimal results are seen.
Clients with multiple issues sometimes train up to 30 times with occasional “tune up” sessions thereafter.
Conditions That Are Helped
Although NeurOptimal does not treat specific conditions, specific symptoms are alleviated because you are improving the overall functioning of the central nervous system.
A recent survey of NeurOptimal trainers comprising 1.2 million sessions found these areas of function improved with training:
- Stress— worry and fearfulness
- Anxiety, panic, hypervigilance
- Sleep disorders
- Learning problems— ADHD symptoms, lack of focus, inability to attend to tasks
- Headaches and migraines
- PTSD and trauma symptoms
- Head and brain injuries
- Cravings and addictions
- Low self-esteem and self-image
- Stuck patterns of thinking and behaving
